POKHARA, Dec 6 -
Nepal's first ever aircraft 'Danfe' built by young Nepali engineers has successfully completed its test flight here Pokhara in Kaski district on Saturday.
A Nepali license holder Russian pilot, Alexander Maximov, led the test flight of the ultra-light aircraft built by a team of students of the Pulchowk Engineering Campus, Institute of Engineering (IoE) in the capital.
The two-seater craft has a total take-off weight of 400 kg.
The aircraft held its flight for about a minute covering a distance of about 1.5 km.
A student team led by Bikash Parajuli and Ganesh Ram Sinkemana constructed the aircraft spending about Rs 1 million.
According to Parajuli, the Danfe has been built with an Austrian engine and locally available materials.
After nearly two years of research and documentation, the 'Danfe' was built last year by Fabrication Group, a research team comprising eight students -Parajuli, Sinkemana, Ramesh Ranabhat, Baburam Kharel, Dipesh Poudel, Anil Maharjan, Rabindra Shrestha and Prasant Malla of Pulchowk Engineering Campus, IoE.
However, the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) did not allow the test flight, citing security reasons and lack of policy on such an experimentation.
